Crowdfunding FAQ

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is when a lot of people pool together to financially support a person, group, project, or cause. It is a powerful tool to fund your favorite creators. You can find many artists and creators crowdfunding on platforms such as Patreon or Ko-Fi.

You can crowdfund my work by subscribing directly here at Dorko.tv, where subscriptions and payments are securely managed through Stripe so you have full control of your subscription and payment data via a Stripe payment portal.

How do I crowdfund you?

Choose the tier you can afford to support on the homepage. This will redirect you to the Stripe checkout process.

After you have finished checking out, you'll be able to set your password and login to access your member dashboard here at Dorko.tv using the email address you used when checking out with Stripe.

From there, you'll have access to content perks and the ability to manage your crowdfunding membership, including updating your billing information or cancelling your payments at any time.

I signed up, now how do I sign in?

If you completed your payment through the checkout process and for some reason did not receive your welcome email with instructions on how to log in, you can use the link below to finish setting up your account.

If you do not receive the email to set up your password after 5-10 minutes (don’t forget to check your spam folder!) please send me an email at anne@dorko.tv so I can get you up and running ASAP.

Why not use Patreon or Ko-Fi?

Patreon and Ko-Fi are popular 3rd party platforms for crowdfunding and a great choice for many creators.

However, I am a career web developer and want to provide a customized experience for you that is simply not an option on other platforms. Additionally, by using my self-run crowdfunding website, you are supporting me in the most direct way possible by minimizing middle-man fees.

This also grants me the freedom to manage the site without fear of losing everything due to the interests of another company. For example, when certain creator features become paywalled or when fees are increased. I am not tied to any one service this way and I am only limited by my time, energy, spare income, and imagination.

Which payment methods do you accept?

I accept all payment methods compatible with Stripe within my region. Whatever Stripe supports between your region and mine, I can offer. The primary global payment methods are credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. In some areas, additional options are available.

You can discover what is currently available by beginning the checkout process for your desired supporter tier. Simply cancel if you are not satisfied with your options.

How do you keep financial data secure?

Because I built my own platform I choose how I accept payments.

Right now, I use a service called Stripe to accept and manage your financial data. Stripe hosts and protects your financial information safely and securely, and I don't have access to your credit card information.

This is a win-win for flexibility and security! I get to manage and run a specialized user experience for you as a crowdfunding supporter, and you can rest safe knowing that some random individual on the internet is not accessing your private financial data.

Why don’t you accept PayPal?

PayPal is not so flexible when it comes to integrations. It also acts as a holding account for income, rather than providing straightforward automatic payment processing.

Therefore, if PayPal suspends my account for any reason, I no longer have access to my money if I did not withdraw it on time. PayPal has a history of suspending accounts without warning, and I have personally had difficulties managing international accounts for withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Stripe automatically deposits payments to my bank account on a regular schedule and, at least for the time being, has a better fee structure.
